This national health education initiative aimed to raise awareness of hepatitis prevention, testing, and treatment options among Australia’s culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. Many individuals within these groups face barriers such as stigma, misinformation, and limited access to translated or culturally contextualised health information. 

The campaign sought to normalise discussion around hepatitis, promote early testing, and connect audiences to reliable sources of information and healthcare.

• Advertising – digital display, radio, press and social media in priority languages
• Information materials – translated fact sheets, explainer videos, and social media tiles distributed through community networks
• PR and community engagement – partnership with community radio, health influencers, and local health organisations
• Stakeholder engagement – collaboration with multicultural health services, community leaders, and bilingual educators

CALD Australians at risk of hepatitis or unaware of their risk, with a focus on communities from high-prevalence regions including East and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Languages included: Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Vietnamese, Korean, and others as identified by prevalence data.

This targeted health promotion campaign successfully increased awareness of hepatitis prevention and testing among CALD audiences. 

Culturally relevant messaging and partnerships with trusted community voices ensured information was well received and widely shared. Evaluation confirmed increased engagement with translated health materials and uptake of testing resources, contributing to improved health literacy outcomes.
